The City of The Damned!!

I'm moving forward with another Mister Hyde strip, I've learnt all my mistakes of the First strip I did and have taken all the comments on board. I'm not really caring whether you like it or not because it is coming!!.

And now heres one of the creepiest films to have ever been made. A small town falls asleep for a few hours only to awaken with the discovery that some of the women are impregnated with a Demon Seed. The Hive children grow quickly and begin to take over the town with creating fear for its inhabitants as well as killing a couple of them too. ahhhhhh The Moral is Kids are Creepy!! I really don't like this trailer mainly because of the American voice over for a very British Movie they also re-edit scenes to make it look like certain events happen which they don't!! Its a great film go out an rent it but make sure its the 1960 B/W version not the horrid american remake!

Interlude

I'm thinking of doing more 'Mister Hyde' I loved the gothic cartoons from Charles Addams. Although they were one off jokes I find them incredibly entertaining and Dark. And I thought of a few gags and situations for Eddie Hyde to get up to!

I've set up a poll as to if you want to see it so give it a quick yes or no!

One of my Favorite shows Growing up was Battle of the Planets. A few years ago I saw the first two original Gatchaman episodes and ever since then I can't go back and watch BOTP. They were Dark and much more enjoyable than the watered down version we were given as kids. I hope one day to see the complete series as it was meant to be!

The Many Faces of Mister Hyde

The Infamous Mister Edward Hyde or 'Eddie' to his friends. Evil courses through his veins. When going about invisioning this character I took all the well known aspects of this classic character with a little spin. I did a bunch of sketches and over time it evolved into the character I went with.
Probably my favorite version of the character is from the movie Mad Monster Party. Although in the end it looked nothing like that character there is still much left from him in the colour scheme. Green Skin, Red Eyes and Pink Nose. Unlike the recent Incarnations Hyde was always a short man not a Hulk character so I made sure he wasn't like that!
There was one distinct object that I couldn't get away from the Top Hat was a must.
Not sure if I will be continuing with this character, as I really just wanted to set up a reason to actually design the characters and show the process. Thanks for all the comments over the past couple of weeks, Sometimes you aren't sure if you are just talking to yourself. When theres dead air for months on end. I love feedback good or bad otherwise a hundred things go through your head thinking 'Whats Wrong with it?'.

Nope I'm not professional I've met plenty of people that are but I'm just an amatuer trying to make good. I try to be honest and if that means being somewhat self critical then thats what we must do.

It's been a rough week, with the next week or two planned to be even rougher. Doctors visits and the like with more next week. Thanks for your patience if you have any questions on anything let me know.

Just watched the remake to The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. Yeah good Popcorn flicks. Now that I see it again Brendan Frasers Wig is just so OBVIOUS!!

If you can cast your mind back to Novemeber when I was visiting Melbourne I went to the Video Game expo they had there. And although it wasn't brilliant, it did make my mind up that I wanted a DS to play with. I also was watching this game called Wario Land: The Shake Dimension also known as 'Shake It' in America (don't ask me why they changed it perhaps its a rude title here) for the Wii.

Anywho I didn't get a chance to play it as they were only letting rotten kids to have a go. I really liked how it looked like a cartoon. I picked it up last week but due to busy week I haven't had much time to play it.

Heres the Trailer for it there are a few cut scenes on youtube as well. Looks like Fun!!

Theres a great Documentary on youtube as well that I watched called Haunted London Underground. If you haven't seen it I recommend it if you want chills just watch this clip.

Have I mentioned I'm in Melbourne Later Next month?? Yeah I'm travelling over there to meet my Favorite Doctor Who. I also heard that Supanova Convention is going to be on but whether or not I will make it depends on cashflow. And things are Bad right now for everyone. I am so lucky I have a roof over my head right now not sure how long that will last though.

In Between!

So you have seen the beginning and also the end of creation but now comes the time to look at how I got there.

Jenny Jekyll: From the Initial first sketches we look at the type of character we ultimately want. Looking at the girl for what she transforms into you need something Small, Cute and Unassuming. The great thing of where we are in this day and age is alot of artists have done their renderings of little girls particulary of the age group I was aiming to use. I imagined what Mary Blairs character would best suit since they are so cutesy!! 6 year old girls have Pigtails so we need to have those Although Originally I opted for ears I removed them for a more stylish look also with the feet. It gives her a dainty feel that we need.
I pretty much hit the right note with it, so besides the odd change, larger head, fatter shorter arms it was time to do the finish design in illustrator to which you now see. Next blog will be about the Hyde Character and how it evolved.

Onto other things and Eagle Eyed Readers will realise that indeed theres been a header change, I know how annoying its been to scroll half way down the page to read my stuff so I decided to bite that bullet and just update it. Let me know what you think and if its too much I return the old one.

As you may know I've been down to Bruny Island the last couple of weeks I thought I would share some photos.

This heres my dog Billie who loves having a dip in the water he's already broken his lead twice in the last few days running after other dogs and even a cow!! So a brand new Lead is in Order. Ughhh
This is a lovely beach strip sometimes you get lucky and you are the only person on it!
Next Post will be dedicated to the Creation of Mister Hyde Character.

Creating Characters My Way!!

So you got an idea that will sell a million t-shirts, animated series and possibly a live action movie. Well forget about all that okay, its just rubbish.

Lets look at creating a Character from scratch.

The Idea: We start with a girl alright lets make her have two sides a good side and an evil side. Yeah sounds like every other girl. But wait how about its magnified a thousand fold as we throw in the Jekyll mixture. ohhhh now we are rocking. So lets make her about 5/6 year old drinks the potion she turns into a Hyde character. AWESOME!!

So I begin by drawing some rough sketches. As this will be a character with two personalities I decided to do this girl who is somewhat posessed!

Rave Fifty Years On!

In 1959 American Music lost one of its founding fathers, Buddy Holly. For 4 years he Rocked the charts and Fifty Years todays hits the anniversary of his tragic death. I was first introduced to his music by my mother as she grew up during that time and was only a year away from marrying my father!

I remember buying a cassette tape of his music and listening it on long drives across australia when I was in my teens. The Song That'll Be the Day That I Die seems somewhat Poetic in his short life. My personal favorite though is True Love Ways no idea why maybe because its very 'classic' in tone like an old band playing I love the the Saxophone in it with its Melody.

I didnt want to do an illustrator based drawing of him so basically back to pens and paper. I hate to colour in photoshop but didn't turn out to badly I think.

Managed to also set up the internet down here on Bruny Island and will hopefully be able to fulfill my scheduled Character Design Project I hope You all check it out in the coming days!.

Project: Character Design Prologue

Occasionally I get an email from someone who wants to study character design or draw better. And you know I really don't feel I'm the right person to be asking and feel very awkward as my work has been limited at best and maybe people would be better off asking someone currently in the field.

But Dammit you know there are somethings you just can't learn from a Book or get in contact with the right 'professionals' to ask they are either way too busy or stuck up to give a hoot about you an underling and I certainly should know!!

So this Month begins a look into how to go about Creating a Character from Scratch all the way to a Project. I'm not going to pretend I know all the answers I definitely do NOT. But if I show you how I work then maybe it will give you a better understanding and also the confidence to make a move on your own. I plan to do this during the month of February so I hope you will check it out.

As a side note I will be away from my homebase for the next week or two, I'm hoping to spend my time and concentrate on getting this done for you. I hope to have a wireless setup down at the temporary base hopefully by tomorrow. Im not sure how it will work out but I'm really crossing my fingers on it. If I have any issues please keep an eye in my myspace or facebook for further developments. I really hope this turns out to be alot of fun and people get something out of it!

I know alot of people were looking forward to my first foray into Comic Covers and I'm sorry if you are disappointed. While I'm at it and your not dissappointed you may like to know that the comic I had planned has been put back onto the back burner. After I got sick in november I kinda lost all love for it. Even though I still have alot of love for Logopolis but the really I don't think anyone ever 'got it' and I would rather move on and then look back and keep plugging away.

Thats Where this Project Gestates from and I think in away I'm glad all this crap has happened in the last few months. If anything if my lasting legacy is not working in Cartoons then I atleast hope its here teaching what I've learned to make that person who does 'Make it' into their own Lasting Legacy!!
